The Cazenovia Library has been blessed with four library cats over many years. Page is our most recent cat, joining the library family in September 2009. She's young and loves to play.

The first was Dewey Decimal who arrived at the library in July of 1985 and passed away February 11, 1988.

The second was Kitty who was with us from 1988 until October 17, 1999.

Our third cat was Jesse who was with us from March 2000 until April 29, 2009, read our memorial below.

In Loving Memory of Jesse
All at the Cazenovia Public Library are saddened by the death of our friend and companion, Jesse, who had been our library cat since March of 2000. No one knew for certain how old Jesse was, but it is thought that he was about 14 years old when he died on April 29, 2009. During that 9-year period, Jesse provided us with countless memories that are cherished now. He would ride the elevator on purpose, for example, just because he knew he could, and his reputation as an “escape artist” was renowned. He also made it known, to staff and visitors alike, that his job was to “meet and greet.” He began these duties shortly after his arrival at the library when he appeared in the Story Garden for story time. After that, he attended every meeting, program, or event held at the library; in fact, he attended the Village Democratic Caucus in the community room on April 27th, just two days before he died. Many people stopped by the library just to see Jesse, and a special “thank you” is extended to all of you for loving him. Along with his “read my mind” attitude with a hint of arrogance, there was always that “purr” to let everyone know that he loved us, too.
