Connecting Collections: The Keeper of Lost Things (Ruth Hogan)

Do you like to read? Are you interested in our museum and archive collections? Join us every other month for Connecting Collections, a new book club that pairs a book with an item/items from our collection. This month we’ll read and discuss Ruth Hogan’s Keeper of Lost Things and take a look at Cabinet of Curiosity.

From the publisher:

“Anthony Peardew is the keeper of lost things. Forty years ago, he carelessly lost a keepsake from his beloved fiancée, Therese. That very same day, she died unexpectedly. Brokenhearted, Anthony sought consolation in rescuing lost objects—the things others have dropped, misplaced, or accidently left behind—and writing stories about them. Now, in the twilight of his life, Anthony worries that he has not fully discharged his duty to reconcile all the lost things with their owners. As the end nears, he bequeaths his secret life’s mission to his unsuspecting assistant, Laura, leaving her his house and and all its lost treasures, including an irritable ghost.

A charming, clever, and quietly moving novel of of endless possibilities and joyful discoveries that explores the promises we make and break, losing and finding ourselves, the objects that hold magic and meaning for our lives, and the surprising connections that bind us.”

The event is free and open to the public. Copies of the book are available for checkout at the Library’s circulation desk

Date: March 28th

Time: 6:30pm

Location: The Library’s front sitting room

RSVP's Bone Builders

Hosted and sponsored by Madison County’s RSVP Bonebuilders is held every Wednesday and Friday morning in the Betsy Kennedy Community Room from 10am-12pm.

Bone builders is a research-based exercise program developed by Tufts University. This is an exercise and education program designed to prevent and help alleviate osteoporosis and improve general fitness. Each session consists of balance, strengthening, and stretching exercises. Some utilize hand or leg weights. Exercise groups are led by RSVP volunteers, and supported by a trained RSVP staff member. The group exercise sessions, which last about one hour, are held once a week in a community setting. A typical group ranges from 8 to 18 participants aged 50 and beyond. Men and women are welcome. Bone Builders sessions include valuable health information such as nutrition and exercise. Currently, exercise sessions are free of charge. Equipment to begin the program is provided.

This program is free and open to the public, no registration is required.
