Stories at Home- Ms Jenna

Stories at Home

We miss sharing stories with our young readers so we’re bringing them to you from our homes. Check back each Friday for a story read from home by one of our Library staff.

This week Ms. Jenna kicks off our reads with Pokko and the Drum by Matthew Forsythe. Enjoy and happy reading!

Transparent Language- Learn something new

Hola. Bonjour. Ciao. Namaste. Hello.

Interested in learning something new while we shelter in place? Are you looking forward to when you can travel again? Do you or your child need to fulfill a language requirement for coursework?

Look no further than our Transparent Languages Digital Service. With 100+ languages and dialects, Transparent Language offers lessons for everyone from beginners to intermediate speakers. English not your first language? They’ve thought of that too, offering 26 language lessons designed for ESL students.

Everyone learns a little differently so Transparent Languages offers four types of courses to help you.

Alphabet Courses: Full-length alphabet courses are available for 18+ languages to familiarize you with new writing systems, empowering you to learn one (or more!) of those “intimidating” languages like Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, or Arabic.

Essentials Courses: These courses guide you through 30+ lessons of pure language fundamentals, including meeting and greeting, expressing wants and needs, planning for a trip, dealing with money, asking for help, and beyond.

Supplemental Vocabulary: Hundreds of topically-organized vocabulary lists will teach you thousands of new words and phrases through a completely redesigned suite of fun, interactive activities that build all four core language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. No more drilling paper flashcards!

Grammar Reference: An extensive index of grammar materials rounds out the learning experience, providing both written and multimedia explanations of grammar rules and patterns.

Worried that you won’t be able to learn on your own? A customizable Learning Path allows you to choose what you want to learn, while an integrated analytics system tracks your progress, periodically prompting you to review material that you haven’t seen in a while. It’s like having a built-in teacher there to keep you on track toward your language-learning goals.

Getting Started: Start today by downloading our rbDigital app. Yes, the app that also brings you magazines and audiobooks is a portal to learning a new language too! Download the app and create a login using your library card number and pin. Not sure what your library card number is? We can help with that.

Closing Statement from Library Director, Betsy Kennedy

After much consideration and fact-based guidance from the New York Library Association and MidYork Library System, the Library’s Board of Trustees has decided to temporarily close the Cazenovia Public Library. We understand closing the library building is a hardship and are sorry to have to take this action. It was a decision that is based on information from state and local officials.

Our community’s health depends on everyone staying away from close contact with others.

During this time the library is suspending due dates and fines. Please make use of all the wonderful online services (ie Libby, Hoopla, rBDigital, Heritage Quest).

The situation seems to change by the hour and we are carefully monitoring all the news and advice from officials. Updates will be posted on our website and Facebook pages.
