On Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00 pm the Erieville Nelson Heritage Society will host a special presentation on the 1945 B-17 crash in Nelson at the Cazenovia Public Library. On a snowy January day a B-17 bomber on a training mission was unable to make its original final landing spot in Orange County due to weather and ran out of fuel before locating its secondary site at the Rome Army Air Field in Nelson, NY. One soldier died when his parachute didn’t open and others on the plane suffered injuries. Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz will facilitate the event will feature story of the plane crash including a recent interview with the pilot of the plane. There is no charge for this event. The winter Hills & Hollow, the quarterly newsletter of the Erieville Nelson Heritage Society, is dedicated to the event, will be available at the presentation as well.
