Dr. Sanders’ presentation will explain how the United States has a greater disparity of wealth and income among its citizens than that of any other advanced country. The origins of this inequality and the costs it entails for our democracy and for society at large, is the focus of Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz’s recent works. Sanders will examine Stiglitz’s occasional controversial claims and ideas, and discuss with the audience what level of inequality, if any, is acceptable in a modern, democratic society such as our own.
