Waste Not: A Deep Dive into Waste Reduction, First Steps, and the Science Behind It
Join the Library and Syracuse University PhD student, Laura Markley for a presentation of plastic waste, April 20th at 10:30 am.
Plastic pollution and waste can impact public health and the health of the oceans and other natural ecosystems. The overabundance of single-use plastics reflects our unsustainable treatment of natural resources. Making a change can start at home and within our communities! Small changes can influence not only the people around us, but also the businesses that want to thrive in the sustainable economy of the future.
We’ll discuss ways we can better utilize our resources, save money, and slowly minimize our waste.
Laura is a 2nd year Ph.D. student at Syracuse University in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She’s studying the impacts of plastic on human and environmental health, specifically the conditions that cause chemicals, like BPA, to leach from plastic and whether these chemicals can mimic estrogen in in vitro bioassays.
This program is free and open to the public.
