-Early Literacy-

Promoting literacy in our community is a goal we take seriously at the Cazenovia Public Library.  Literacy programs don’t end at our doorstep.   High quality children’s programming, promoting family literacy and reading in the home, is offered regularly off-site for preschool and school-age children.  We strive to create a literacy-rich environment in the Cazenovia area through our Library programs, literacy outreach, food pantry partnerships, and community projects, such as our Story Walks and “Little Free Library” program.

Story Time

Join us at 10:15am for daily Story Times & Early Learning in the Story Garden.

Monday & Tuesday
Baby Story Time (ages 0-2): Join Ms. Betsy for stories, interactive songs, and play all year round. Children will learn favorite nursery songs and listen to basic stories, providing a foundation of early literacy.

PreSchool Story Time with Ms. Jenna

Thursday & Friday
Kindergarten Readiness in the Story Garden with Mrs. Hill (Thursday) and Ms. Jenna (Friday) is a time for hands-on learning and exploration. Fun and educational projects await the children each week as they explore a different theme and learn by doing!

Dolly Parton Imagination Library

The Cazenovia Public Library is pleased to offer free books to any Madison County preschooler through the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, made possible by the Dorothy C. Litchenberg-Dehart Memorial Fund. All children ages 0-4 are eligible to receive a free book, mailed monthly to their home. This program supports reading in the home and provides early literacy skills to children, encouraging success in school.  If you are interested in donating to this program, please contact your local Madison County Library.

If your child is eligible for this program, sign up online or stop by your local Madison County Library to fill out a registration form and start receiving books!

  Family Literacy Program at CazCares

Sponsored by Cazenovia Public Library, the Story Room Family Literacy Program operates a collaborative learning-focused family center at CazCares Food Pantry that provides early literacy, adult literacy and parenting programs. The Story Room gives children the unique opportunity to gain preschool learning and nurturing while their parents access other on-site services.
Close relationships have formed with many young families who are happy for the support for both them and their families as they deal with the challenges and excitement of child-rearing.

Hours: The Story Room is open on a drop-in basis during CazCares hours (Monday, Tuesday & Thursday, 9:30 -noon), and during Fresh Foods on the second Tuesday of each month, 3:00-4:30 pm. CazCares is located at 101 Nelson Street, Cazenovia, NY 13035. For more information, please contact our Literacy Coordinator, Carla Zimmerman at czimmerman@midyork.org.
