-Programing for Children-
The Cazenovia Public Library offers many children’s programs to promote learning, creativity and socialization. Please see the Calendar of Events for a complete list of programs and activities. If you would like to receive an email informing you of upcoming events, let us know at Cazenovia@midyork.org (please put “events mail” in the subject box). Call the Library for additional details or contact information.
Story Time: (Mon, Tue, Wed 10:15) Offered three days a week, Story Time allows children of all ages to interact through songs, books read aloud, and playtime. Betsy hosts Baby Story Time (ages 0-2) every Monday and Tuesday throughout the year, while Ms. Jenna hosts Toddler Story Time (ages 2-3) on Wednesdays (no Toddler Story Time during school vacation.)
Explore & Learn: (Thurs & Fri 10:15) A branch of Story Time, Explore and Learn sessions promote children’s learning through hands-on activities and observation. Mrs. Hill and Ms. Jenna’s lessons are geared to ages 4 and 5 and provide the tools needed to prepare children for the transition from pre-school to kindergarten.
Explorer Days: Explorer Days, held during week-long school breaks, offer hands-on creative programs for Elementary and Middle School aged children. Each vacation offers new programs. Whether it’s Winter or Spring Explorer Day, each program offers something new and creative. Past programs have involved creating musical instruments, fun with puppets, creating masterpieces from snow and ice, magic shows, concerts, and so much more!
LEGO my Library: (second Monday 3:30) Find your inner architect and engineer at LEGO my Library, an hour of free play and design with the Library’s LEGOs in the Community Room. The program is for anyone who enjoys LEGOs, ages 3+.
Summer Reading: With school out for summer, children are invited for weekly programs emphasizing themes selected by the Collaborative Summer Library Program. Educational, creative and fun, the Summer Reading Program stimulates learning to offset the summertime slump, keeping brains engaged in between the school years.
Art for Kids: The learning does not stop on Cazenovia Central Schools’ half days; it continues at the Library with Ms. Jenna and Mrs. Hill. Each program focuses on an individual artist, exploring his/her life, inspirations, techniques, and body of work. The program concludes with participants creating their own artist-inspired artwork. Programs are designed for ages 8-12. Registration is required.
Teddy Bear Parade: A Cazenovia 4th of July tradition! We’re proud to partner with Cazenovia Children’s House for this annual event, in which children and their teddy bears (accompanied by parents/family) march from the cannon in Memorial Park to the Library. At their destination, participants join together for a snack and some sing-a-long fun. This event is held the Saturday closest to July 4th.
Friends of the Library Chocolate Party: Another Friends of the Library annual tradition is the Chocolate Party. Held the Sunday of Winterfest weekend (early February), this event features an afternoon of chocolate and storytelling in the Community Room. Nothing makes a cold winter day sweeter than a treat and a good story.
Movies: In collaboration with Movie Licensing USA and MPLC, the Library hosts new release screenings of favorite movies in the Community Room. Typically, movies are shown twice, once after school at 3:15pm and again in the evening at 7pm (please call or consult the Calendar of Events for film start times). Free popcorn is provided.
